As part of my Writing for the Technical Professional course at UCF, I was tasked with writing a research proposal. Specifically, an adapted version of the UCF Office of Undergraduate Research’s “Student Research Grant” proposal. It highlights my ability to come up with a unique proposal topic and clearly define the ways in which it can be achieved were it to be selected for approval.

For this project, the necessary steps included:

-Identifying the proposal topic and scope
-Reviewing example proposals to better understand the genre
-Studying the context of the OUR Student Research Grant
-Conducting background research about the topic
-Writing out the proposal

The title of my project is: “Technical Communicators within Environmental Organizations: An Analysis on the Impacts of Their Role in the Success of Environmental Efforts”

Published Magazine Article

— Overview

As part of my work with the nonprofit Loyal Guardians Service Dog Training, I was tasked with writing an article to spotlight their business within the magazine Montrose Living. The magazine is distributed across the Western Slope of Colorado.

For this assignment, I interviewed one of the co-founders of the business and researched the nonprofit to put together this journalism piece.

This assignment showcases my ability to effectively and eloquently put together information that highlights and outlines the essentials of a business.

The title of my article is: “The Western Slope Welcomes Loyal Guardians Service Dog Training”

The Magazine is based out of Montrose, Colorado and is called: Montrose Living

It was published in July 2024.

Accessibility Article

— Overview

As part of my time with the Future Technical Communicators club at UCF, I wrote this article as a contributor of the publication’s committee.

This article is called “Exploring Accessibility for the User Experience” and it dives into specific features of accessibility within the tech comm world. It highlights the importance and necessity of fine tuning accessibility in writing and helps readers understand the appropriate steps to achieve effectiveness and success.

Client eBook

— Overview

I created this document for a client looking to add an opt-in offering to her website for new clients who signed up for her newsletter. I followed guidelines set forth by my client to create an appealing document that acts as a collective of information regarding my clients chosen topic of loss and grief and the transformative process of healing.

To complete this project, I worked with my client to develop the content of the eBook and from there I utilized varying design programs to develop and compile the entire eBook to her specifications.

Research Paper

— Overview

As part of my Technical Writing Style course at UCF, I was tasked with researching and writing about a topic of style within technical communication. I chose to write about emotive language and bias within our American democracy. The objective of this assignment was to learn how to analyze and relay information appropriately within the context of technical writing styles and communication.

This project involved significant research and development for my chosen topic, and a dedicated amount of time spent writing out my findings.

Project Proposal

— Overview

I created this document for my Client Project Management course at UCF. For this individual project, we were required to demonstrate our abilities in the four areas I assess: Design, Organization, Content, and Style.

To complete this project, I worked solo to develop the content of the proposal from the business Lost In Overland, and I utilized Canva to develop and compile the entire proposal.

If the design was of interest to other class members, we could choose to work together in a group to complete it.

I designed this project with a focus on clarity, accessibility, and user engagement—organizing content logically, selecting visuals that reflect the course’s adventurous and eco-conscious tone, and emphasizing a clean, responsive layout to support a user-friendly and informative experience.

Social Media Strategy

— Overview

This project culminates everything from the semester and capstones the link between ENC4293 and ENC4294 at UCF. I worked as a group of four to complete a major technical communication project for a client, Cosmic Event Rentals. It incorporated essential technical communication skills in design, organization, content, and style.

I contributed the Content Strategy, Budget, Appendices/References, and served as Document Designer and Editor. I created visual elements (e.g., content pillars infographic) using Canva and oversaw the full visual layout of the document, including page structure, branding elements, and formatting to reflect the client’s tone and aesthetic. I also edited each draft thoroughly based on both peer and professor feedback, ensuring consistency in style, grammar, and clarity throughout. Additionally, I researched and proposed scalable budget options, emphasizing accessible tools that align with the client’s current constraints.

Usability Test

— Overview

For this undergraduate-level usability project, I conducted a full evaluation of the Garmin Fitness Watch with a focus on accessibility and user experience. The project began with a heuristic evaluation using Quesenbery’s 5 Es, identifying key usability issues in navigation, readability, and feature accessibility.

From this, I developed a structured usability test plan that included real-world personas, task-based scenarios, and both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Using the Think-Aloud Method, I conducted a pilot test and in-person usability testing, observing how participants interacted with the device.

The project culminated in a formal usability test report that included key findings and actionable recommendations to improve the product’s inclusivity, efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.

Design Justice Essay

— Overview

As part of my undergraduate coursework in Usability Testing, I analyzed principles from Design Justice by Sasha Costanza-Chock to critically examine the data collection and analysis methods used in my usability test of the Garmin Fitness Watch. This essay explores how dominant design norms can marginalize users and reflects on how intersectional, equity-centered frameworks can inform more inclusive usability practices.

Assignment parameters consist of: In a short essay, discuss the impact of data justice on your chosen area of the usability process. You can discuss how these issues impact the stakeholders or the process (or the product), and your discussion can be wide-ranging. You don’t have to come up with a solution (solving the issue of representation in the hiring process, for example, is not likely to be an easy fix) but your contribution should focus on examining an aspect of one of the issues specific to usability.

Style Guide

— Overview

As part of my ENC 4293 – Documentation and Project Management course at UCF, I was tasked with creating a style guide. Specifically, this style guide addresses technical writing students, staff, and anyone writing on behalf of UCF.

For this project, the necessary steps included:

-Identifying the target audience, style, and voice
-Reviewing example style guides
-Studying the context of current UCF guidelines for writing
-Conducting background research about the subject
-Writing, creating, and editing the style guide

This project was completed by 20 students. My group of 4 created Chapter 3 of the style guide. My part, individually, covered Chapter 3’s “Introduction” and “Outlining.” As well, I was the General Editor for the entire document. These duties included proofreading the entire document, making sure all content was appropriately covered and not duplicated, and keeping the style and tone consistent. As the main editor, I also wrote the style guides “Introduction.” This project highlights my ability to collaborate efficiently and effectively to produce a content rich, well-organized, and aesthetically pleasing document.

The title of this style guide is: “University of Central Florida Technical Writer’s Style Guide”
